Extension privacy policy

How the ktxShot Chrome extension processes screenshots locally, what temporary information it handles, and how that information is protected.

Your screenshots stay on your device.

Effective date: August 28, 2026

Scope

This Privacy Policy describes how the ktxShot Chrome extension handles information when you capture, edit, download, copy, or print a screenshot. ktxShot works locally in your browser and does not require an account.

Information ktxShot Handles

ktxShot handles only the information needed to provide the capture and editing workflow:

  • Pixels of visible website content that you explicitly choose to capture.
  • Annotation text and drawing data you create.
  • Temporary rendered images produced for download, clipboard copy, or printing.
  • A random capture-session identifier.
  • The selected capture mode.
  • Creation and expiration timestamps.
  • Your light or dark interface theme preference.

Visible website content, including text or form values shown on screen, may naturally appear as pixels in a screenshot you request. ktxShot does not separately extract or analyze that information.

Information ktxShot Does Not Collect

ktxShot does not collect:

  • Captured page URLs or page titles.
  • Browsing history, account information, authentication credentials, or cookies.
  • Clipboard contents.
  • Analytics, advertising identifiers, or telemetry.
  • Location, financial, or health information.
  • Personal communications or form values as structured data.

How Information Is Used

Screenshot pixels and annotations are used only to provide capture, editing, and export features. Your theme preference is used only to display the interface appearance you selected.

Data is not used for advertising, profiling, credit decisions, analytics, model training, or unrelated purposes.

Local Storage and Retention

  • Screenshot sessions are stored locally in the extension's IndexedDB storage.
  • Sessions automatically expire after 30 minutes.
  • A successful PNG download removes its source session immediately.
  • Clipboard export keeps the source session until normal expiration so you can continue editing or retry.
  • Printing creates a temporary rendered session that is removed after printing or closing the print page, with automatic expiration as a fallback.
  • Images may temporarily exist in browser memory and temporary object URLs while an editor or export page is open.
  • Your theme preference remains in extension-local storage until you change it or uninstall ktxShot.

Sharing and Third Parties

ktxShot does not transmit screenshots, annotations, page content, or capture metadata to the developer or to third-party servers. The current release has no cloud upload provider.

Download, clipboard, and print actions send the result only to a local browser or operating-system destination you select. Any sharing after export is controlled by you.

Permissions

ktxShot requests five Chrome permissions, each limited to an implemented feature:

  • activeTab temporarily accesses the page where you explicitly start a capture.
  • scripting coordinates scrolling and selected-area capture on that page.
  • clipboardWrite copies the final image after you select Copy.
  • contextMenus provides capture commands in the page context menu.
  • alarms automatically deletes temporary screenshot sessions.

ktxShot does not request persistent access to your browsing history or all visited websites.

Data Deletion

Temporary capture sessions are deleted automatically as described above. A successful PNG download removes its source session immediately. You can remove remaining extension-local data by uninstalling ktxShot; Chrome then removes the extension's local data.

Security

All executable code is packaged with ktxShot. The extension does not use remote executable code, and no personal or sensitive information is transmitted to developer-controlled servers. Permissions are limited to the functionality implemented by the extension.

No system can eliminate every risk. Keep your device and browser secure, and review screenshots before exporting or sharing them. ktxShot does not claim application-level encryption for locally stored screenshots.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

The use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. That information is used only to provide or improve the user-facing capture, editing, and export features.

Information received from Chrome APIs is not:

  • Sold or transferred for advertising.
  • Used for personalized or interest-based advertising.
  • Used for analytics or profiling.
  • Used for purposes unrelated to the extension's single purpose.
  • Made available for human review.

A narrow exception may apply when you explicitly consent to sharing information for a support request, when information is needed for a security investigation, or when disclosure is required by applicable law.

Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated when ktxShot's functionality or data handling changes. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated when a revised policy is published.
